1. Available time
Scheduled hours = days × shifts/day × hours/shift. Planned downtime and entered changeover minutes are then subtracted to find net available production hours.

Formula guide
Scheduled hours = days × shifts/day × hours/shift. Planned downtime and entered changeover minutes are then subtracted to find net available production hours.
Gross capacity = net hours × rated throughput. Good-output capacity applies the expected scrap rate. Buffered capacity then holds back your optional planning buffer.
Productive hours needed = demand ÷ scrap-adjusted throughput. Completion timing expands that requirement for planned downtime and adds changeover hours.
Important: rated throughput should be a demonstrated planning rate for this product and line—not simply the extruder’s nameplate maximum. Demand and throughput must use the same selected unit.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. If demand is in pounds, throughput must be pounds per hour. If demand is in feet, throughput must be feet per hour. This calculator never converts between weight and length.
It is expected good output after planned downtime, changeovers, and scrap, reduced by the optional capacity buffer you choose to protect against normal variability.
The calculator estimates productive hours needed after scrap, expands them for planned downtime, adds the entered changeover time, and expresses the total in scheduled hours and production days.
No. It is a fast capacity check for one product or run. A floor schedule must also decide which eligible line runs each order and in what sequence.
No product or run values are submitted to a backend. The calculation runs in your browser, and no email is required to see the result.
